The Classic Cut-In Pop-Up

$225.00

The 20th-century Czech paper engineer Vojtěch Kubašta is known for many things. He was spectacularly prolific. He served as writer, illustrator and engineer for his books. And relevant to what follows, he favored a single approach to paper engineering: the cut-in structure. Cut-in pop-ups, a.k.a. kirigami, are formed by cutting and folding a single sheet. (There are exceptions.) This approach yields elegant and efficient structures. As a paper engineer with deep interest in no-glue construction, I’m very pleased to offer this workshop as the latest in the “no-glue, no-stitch” series. This four-hour workshop is divided over two sessions, with time in between for independent work. Participants will build 12 structures using a kit of pieces pre-cut from simple white cardstock. The focus is pure mechanism, but with some light application to suggest possibilities for use. Ultimately, the structures are gluelessly bound, then tucked into a sturdy box.

Two date options are available. All levels are welcome. Indicate your preferred date when registering.

Cost of registration includes one kit. Additional kits are available for $25 each. See below.

Due to shipping costs, kit fees for international participants will be higher.
